RWU Model Photo Shoot Series 17Sept2011.movGreetings — This video is another in a series of a collection of behind-the-scenes video clips and photos taken at one of our model test shoots last fall and model tips. The video was not filmed by one of our professional crew videographers with better equipment but on my little digital camera and by me, RWU's Founder/Executive Director. So my personal apologies for the quality of some of the clips. We promise to do better or at least not multitasking while documenting our next shoot... The models featured in the shoot are Nick Porter and Jennifer Cupid, two one of RWU's PRN models. While Jenn has walked the runway for RWU fashion shows and presentation, Nick has yet to appear in a runway show. This was also Nick first fashion photo shoot and Jenn's first with RWU. As always, in this video you will see images of Jenn and Nick being prepped for their shoots then one of our Staff Photographers, Christina "Phaz" Rosales getting some test shoots with RWU crew standing in before starting the shoot with our models first in little or no make. Then later in "beauty"/extreme make up. This shoot was meant to be a test shoot and for head shots, not a full out editorial shoot with full body shots so many of the final edits will be cropped at the torso or higher. We wanted to see how these models would do their first time working with a photographer they'd never met, along with extreme makeup, garments, props and different settings. Models, always remember your body and positioning even in head shoots. You never know what the camera(s) are capturing in any given shot. Your entire body should be posing/modeling in a shot not just where you think the camera is aimed. In one case Nick forgot the lower have of his body while Phaz was shoot his face but I got 3/4 of his body in a great pose with Jenn where he forgot his angles and posture. So in a few shots I got he looks as if he doesn't have a great six pack. The trick is your entire body should be in character when the camera(s) is on you...For the novice (and experienced) model, take note of how essential good skin care is. Male models always pay extra close attention to your facial and body hair care as well as your skin care. If you have facial hair be sure to ask if you weren't told before hand about arriving to the set clean shaven or if just a trim is needed. A little "manscaping" goes along way in this industry and, especially for photo shoots. Yes, that means getting chest and back waxes and in some cases, your arms too. Don't forget trimming the back of your hair/neck line and no ingrown mustache hairs! In either case (skin and hair care) the photographer or editor is speeding additional hours (and money) on Photoshopping your photos for release. Male models it's also really important for you to wrap your minds around the fact that you will have to sit in the makeup artist's chair too for shoots (and runway shows) and get touch ups on set, so get used to it. Also add your own set of personal makeup (foundation, concealer, eyeliner and powder) to your model bag. Yes, there are actually cosmetic companies with lines of make up and skincare products for men (i.e. Evie Evans in Ausitn, TX). When you come to a shoot nervous, stiff and introverted it shows in your body, face, eyes and energy. Jenn was neither and very malleable... We shot lots of frames with lots of interesting and great shoots. There were also several that we weren't good for portfolio or editorial purposes but have/will be used as teaching tools in our model coaching sessions. To see a few of the actual edited photos of Nick and Jenn from this shoot, go to our Facebook page (RunWay Underground) and our website @ RunWayUnderground.webs.com.
